A Cherokee County company is adding 40 jobs that will help keep soldiers’ feet warm and dry.

Industrial Opportunities Inc. will make a cold weather sock and a waterproof boot liner for the military for Welco Enterprises. Welco decided to move the jobs from Puerto Rico to Andrews, N.C., based on IOI’s manufacturing capacity, price, on-time delivery and quality products. The products may find their way to U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

IOI celebrated six years in its 79,000-square-foot Andrews building, where it makes 66 different products. Its 315-person work force includes 113 adult clients with disabilities receiving vocational training.
